Genealogy Tips: Finding your Hillsborough County ancestors

Stop by the Florida History and Genealogy Library and take a look at our Hillsborough County marks and brands records on microfilm. These records have great genealogical value, but can often be overlooked. Coverage begins in 1850, and extends through 1945. Marks and brands were registered by individuals who owned livestock (usually cattle).

U.S. Agricultural Census Schedules: Placing Your Farming Ancestors in Context @ JFG on 8/2/2014

On Saturday, August 2nd, at 11:00 AM the Florida Genealogical Society presents: Mr. George G. Morgan will discuss how to use information from the U.S. Agricultural Census Schedules to understand and place into context your ancestors farming history.

Finding Digitized Original Genealogy Documents Online @ JFG on 7/19/2014

Join us at the Florida History & Genealogy Library on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM PM, to celebrate Archives Awareness Week  by learning the tricks to finding and saving copies of original genealogical documents. Military records, Naturalization records, Newspapers, and a variety of other record types will be covered. Attendees will get hands on experience using Fold3, Ancestry, and Genealogy Bank databases. Time for questions, individual research, and a brief tour of the Florida History and Genealogy Library, will be provided at the end of the presentation.

Genealogy: Online Military Records @ NTA on 5/17/2014

On Saturday, May 17th, at 10:15 a.m., learn how to effectively search US military records in the Fold3 database which contains many records, stories, photos, and personal documents of those who served.  This online resource is provided free at all branch libraries or at home with a valid Hillsborough County library card.
